Professor of electrical engineering of Imperial College, London. He became famous for his research on maglev trains and infamous at The Royal Institution in London for his gyroscopic demonstration that Newton’s laws of motion were in doubt. It was a famous but forgotten evening as there were no published proceedings of the demonstration that left the audience of The Royal Society in silence and disbelief. To challenge Newton in his own hall was nothing short of heresy. Eric Laithwaite died in 1997 but not before he built a prototype of his reactionless drive device.
