It seems like few are thinking of the big picture which is, after this spill wipes out the gulf and the eastern seaboard, the gulf stream carries it to most of the rest of the planet with similar results.
Would anyone venture a guess as to how many gallons in the oceans kills the oceans and ultimately, us?

BP has no intention of stopping the flow of oil, they as much as say so. It will be stopped in August they say.

I am thinking in terms of many millions of barrels by August. And that is a lot of oil and a lot of pollution, not to mention the chemicals they are pumping into the oil to break it up at the well head.

The way they are going about this assures the oil being spread far and wide causing untold damage to the environment and the ecology of the ocean.

A toxic brew of poisons being digested by the sea.

looks at that thing tick away… sad.
Day 50 almost here and probably 50 more before a fix?
BP is #4 on Fortune 500. There must be so much we don’t know in terms of big business, kickbacks, contributions, etc. that earn them this kind of favoritism.

A few left not close to this situation might consider the PBS gallon counter to be scaremongering siting that it’s ‘just an estimation’ but when they cut the pipe it sped up and when they capped it it slowed down. Which seems like a reasonable estimation.

Would you call this scaremongering on another level?

Think of this spill as your stomach where they keep feeding you castor oil.

What do you think might happen?

I don’t think most people realize the magnitude of the situation, it’s a hard one to wrap your mind around.

They are now talking of the relief well being completed by the fall which extends the continual flow of oil into the gulf beyond August.

A few are speculating on the possibility that PB may have encountered fractures in the Limestone bedrock into which they drilled the original well. If this is the case and oil is escaping through fissures and cracks it may not be possible to stop the flow of oil completely.

As Jim has suggested this is an international disaster of global proportions. There is simply nothing of historical relevance to compare it to.

One third of the worlds marine life is threatened by the unrestricted flow of oil into the gulf. It is not going to stay in the gulf but will follow the flow of the tides south, east and north.
